Kim and Kris in Rome: the outfits are the show now

A bespoke Erdem gown, a Chanel leopard set and a shared crystal trim did more for All's Fair than the series ever managed to do for itself.

Here is a test: can you name a single scene from All's Fair? Now try describing a dress covered in crystal strands that fall from shoulder to floor. If the second was easier, you have understood the Rome party better than most of the people who wrote about it.

What happened, briefly

Days after her 46th birthday, Kim Kardashian went to an All's Fair reunion at Rome's Bulgari hotel with her mother, Kris Jenner. As WWD reports, Kardashian wore a bespoke Erdem Summer 2027 gown with a collaged white and pink bodice, geometric midriff cutouts, a sheer black skirt and beaded crystal strands. Jenner wore a Chanel pre-fall 2026 leopard-print two-piece with riding boots. The link between them was a crystal trim on her jacket.

The party celebrated the 2025 Ryan Murphy legal drama. WWD notes that critics panned it, but that it has found a cult following among fans of camp.

The dress is the trailer

Notice what the coverage is about. The headlines are about Erdem and crystals. The show shows up as a caption, the occasion for the photos. The reunion party is a red carpet with a plot attached.

That is the heart of our argument. For a series that critics panned, a cast reunion in Rome does not need good reviews. It needs a picture that travels, and a gown of this kind travels well. Nobody has to watch an episode to share a look. We think that is why the party matters more than the show: the outfit sells the idea of All's Fair (excess, glamour, camp) without anyone having to endure the 2025 version.

To be fair, the tone fits. WWD says the show is known for being over the top, and a gown with glitter from head to toe is that same idea, only in couture. In our view, camp was always the show's best selling point, and the wardrobe understands it better than the script apparently did.

Coordination as a brand skill

The Kim and Kris detail is the smartest part. They did not match. They wore very different outfits and linked them with a crystal trim only a careful observer would notice. WWD describes the pair as subtly matching, and that is exactly what makes it shareable: it rewards the people who look closely, and it gives writers a "did you spot it?" angle.

Jenner, by WWD's account, once said "Leopard is my neutral" in an Instagram post. Her look is a brand statement that costs nothing to explain. Kardashian's is a statement about spectacle. Together they look like a two-part campaign, and our guess is that it is planned, though that is pure interpretation on our part.

The birthday week works the same way. According to WWD, she wore two vintage Rabanne fall 1995 haute couture pieces in Los Angeles days earlier. Another outlet reports the Rome look marks a fresh fashion direction with stylist Law Roach, although that piece is thin on detail. Either way, the pattern looks like a wardrobe calendar, not a series of nights out.

Our verdict

Does the show barely need to exist? That is our provocation, not a fact, and it is a bit unfair. Without the series there is no reunion, no excuse for Rome and no cast to photograph. The show is the pretext. But as a pretext it only has to be remembered as a vibe, and the fashion delivers that for free.

If you want to understand what is selling here, don't look for ratings. Notice how the coverage describes a gown before anyone gets to the plot. That, we think, is the real promotion, and it looks like it is working.
